About Directional Drilling

Directional boring, or Horizontal Directional Drilling, is a method of installing underground pipes using a steerable drilling machine and locating equipment. With our machine, we are able to install underground piping, ranging from 1”-18”. Conduit, waterline, electrical, culvert, we provide the ability to install a wide range of underground utilities.

With Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) we are able to replace or install lines with minimal environmental damage. This means WITHOUT trenching your entire yard, driveway, garage, landscaping, or trenching inside your home or basement. This process saves the end user, you, money. Replacing concrete and landscaping adds additional needless costs. Why dig when you can drill?

How It Works

Safety is our #1 concern. The very first thing we do is call digline to locate existing utilities. The utilities must be potholed, or opened for view, as we cross if we will be drilling near them. If you have sewer lines to cross, we also call a company to locate those to ensure the utmost safety. Depending on the location of your meter box, we dig a hole next to the box to route the pipe up into it. We then are able to drill at depth next to the meter box, and below your home, directing the drill to the mechanical room. A small hole is dug in the mechanical room (nowhere else in the home) so we are able to attach the pipe to our drill head to be pulled back through to the meter box. Our locating equipment gives us the capability to direct our drill underneath your house, so we are able to run the entire waterline without having to reroute the piping around obstacles. The piping is then connected at the meter box by the city, and plumbed inside the home to your existing water system. Don’t have a plumber? No problem. We have owned and operated Platinum Plumbing LLC for 6 years and have gained a very respectable reputation for clean, quality work. After all hook ups have been made, the hole by the meter box is filled, and the sod that was removed is placed back. The hole in the basement is patched with concrete, and in one day, you have a brand new, efficient water line, WITHOUT the mess.

We opened Platinum Plumbing LLC in June 2007. We are a locally owned, family operated business who believes in quality work. We saw an opportunity for assisting people in moving waterlines in a clean and efficient manner, after having used a Boise based company to drill some waterlines for us. We conducted months and months of research and training. We purchased a horizontal directional drilling machine and want to show the citizens of the Pocatello/Chubbuck area the environmental benefits and cost savings it can provide.
